Of course, Dumpf and his entourage won't suffer from it...
It probably won't happen or at least will be much lower than that. It will scare the bejesus out of off shore Rd though and probably combine a lot of them to reshore just in case he is serious. That seems to be his gambit.

If he does team this up with reductions in corporate taxes and big reductions in regulations then it might just work.

Reshoring or import taxes on semi finished goods: both will increase the cost of producing goods in the US. It won't change overnight but over the course of the Dumpf presidency you can expect some nasty surprises for the lower middle class and the poor (unless you believe it will be the rich who will be swallowing the decrease in margin).

Mexican imports are a small percentage of total goods and services. Danny boy needs to learn some econ.

Neverthelesss, while Trump makes it sound like the 60 B $/year trade deficit are a huge numbeer, he forgets that those numbers just are a certain percentage out of the whole trade volume between the USA and Mexico.
According to the US census bureau:

The USA import 270 B/year in goods from Mexico ... but also export 210 B /year to Mexico.

The impact on the US economy will surely be felt if it comes to a trade war and Mexico will itself impose punitive tariffs on imports from the USA (for example by the agricultural companies which produce corn, primarily for export to Mexico)

Na. Mexico would be screwed. We wouldn't feel it except in certain areas.

Keep in mind that Mexico has a wall already built of their own so they can keep out the darkies.

Also, Mexico has benefited more from NAFTA than the US and it benefits when those illegals come to the US.

The US helps many nations and doesn't expect equal satisfaction in return. China is another one. I don't recommend trade war with China right now. Something should have been done long ago.

                      ...
The US also benefits from those illegals, considering that it seems like most of them have regular jobs (for which they pay taxes in the USA) and many of them do jobs, that most US citizens don't want t do

Not comparable. Mexico does not grow nearly as much as the US and a surplus of workers is a serious problem. On the other hand the US benefits from immigrants economically but it could do without so many. Socially they are a real problem for us because so many do not assimilate.

They work and they pay taxes, what more do you want ?

For them to speak english, be protestant and celebrate german/nordic/english holidays in the 'proper' manner despite (mostly) living in traditionally spanish/mexican lands (California, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, Arizona/etc).
