  • 'Clock boy' loses defamation case against media.

Nobody lied about him just like nobody discriminated against him. His stupid lawyers said people lied about him but when the judge asked her what lie she just lawyer talked for 15 minutes.

    From the article:
    ...
"I really love the States. It's my home. But I couldn't stay," Ahmed said at the time. "I get death threats. It's a really sad reality of it.
I have to say that this sounds strange ... and idiotic, even for right wing people.
Why would anyone issue death threats against the clock boy?

The threshold for something that gets a death threat has been lowered considerably over the years. I remember when this story first came out that they had documented some of those threats.
But having read everything, it is still my belief that this whole thing was a deliberately set up to elicit the response that it did so they could benefit from it. Quite clever in my opinion. But of course I could be wrong.

        Because they hate Muslims.

          Quote function doesn't work?

It's idiotic to bring a fake bomb to school like that and say it's a clock and then to sue people if you like the States. Not that I'm justifying death threats.

Many people think he was engaging in a type of jihad. There is a lot of suspicion about groups like CAIR.

I for my part don't have a problem with believing that he just wanted to show off his technology skills ....
and that he had no bad intentions when he presented the clock to his teacher (and that it was the school which overreacted).

(But I agree that the behavior of his family afterwards, with trying to sue companies/organizations left and right and obviously trying to get as much money out of it, as possible, sheds a bad light on his family (although I don't think that this is his idea but that he is getting instrumentalized by his parents for this))

I agree that he was showing off and trying to get attention. I also agree that adults had something to do with how it was handled afterwards. Too bad really that he doesn't still live here. He was invited to the WH and everything. I really do think he was influenced by adults. Kids that age are easily manipulated.

I could also see the kid showing it to his parents (showing off and attention whoring) and the father getting an idea and telling the kid he should bring it to school to show off to his teachers, being reasonably sure what would happen. It just seemed so orchestrated afterwards. But just my opinion.

Whatever it was it will likely only happen once. I don't think there will be another clock boy. If anyone thinks this kind of stuff is going to make people who live in Texas stop voicing concern about muslims with bombs I think they are wrong.

That's why I think something else like this is bound to happen. There are a lot of clever people out there, and now they've been handed another template on how to profit from this type of thing.

Don't think anybody expects talks about muslims with bombs to stop.

But I hope that something doesn't stop:
The talk about the treatment of pupils by their schools managements.

I keep reading things about schoolkids in the USA, which I definitely wouldn't expect from a western civilized nation.

For example a school strip searching a 13 years old female student just because they have the suspicion that she gave another student a painkiller with 400mg Ibuprofen.
                      http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/17/wa...uprofen&st=cse

Or an 8 grader getting arrested by police in school because he and a friend dared to throw skittles at each other in the school bus the day before:
                      http://www.vocativ.com/underworld/cr...wing-skittles/

Or kids getting tasered by school police:
                      https://www.sott.net/article/325221-...r-last-5-years

Or many more hairbrained behavior of school officials towards students:
                      http://www.alternet.org/civil-libert...small-children

I am especially shocked that those school officials involved in such cases aren't even forced to resign their posts but rather often enough are encouraged to continue with such behavior.

One gets the feeling that school officials in many US schools don't see their students as kids, but rather as prison inmates/future criminals

I see the behavior towards the clock kid as something along the same lines, i.e. an indication that something is rotten in many schools in the USA (which has to be fought, unless you want to get kids that are subjected to such a treatment actually turn criminals (or commit suicide) as some kind of self fulfilling prophecy)

Part of it is inherant in the system itself. There are so many different jurisdictions for the schools that their seems to not be any sufficient overview of them. Each school becomes it's own island with the Principle the commander and chief. With no oversight except s little from the parents (when you do something really stupid) almost anything goes.

Clock boy brought a fake bomb to school. That is a serious offense. He may have thought it was a good way to get some attention but schools can not allow that behavior.

Those other incidences are unfortunate. The school does have some rights to do those things to keep our children safe. That's the way the system is. They are treated like that because they are children and we have an obligation to protect them.

He brought a digital clock to the school. The assumption that it was a bomb was purely from sides of the teacher.
According to all I have read about the case the boy there was nothing in the boys behavior that suggested it was a bomb.

                            As for the other cases:
Well, if the answer of a teacher (or principal) to a girl bringing a headache pill with her to school is, to let her arrest by the police, like a criminal, then this principal/tescher IMHO has failed his job miserably and shown that he is unfit to his job.

Similarly for letting kids arrest by the police (one day after the act) for throwing skittles at each other.

Policemen are no pedagogues ... and they should not be forced to fulfill this duty, because teachers and/or principals are too lazy or unfit to do their job.

He was not showing off his technology skills. All he did was take a 30 year old clock radio, unscrewed the case, then put it in his father's brief case with extra wires thrown on top.

Best case scenario he is a complete fraud, worst case he really was making a fake bomb as part of a "I am a poor picked upon Muslim" ploy. Either way he deserved to be expelled.
