I have no idea what reputation takes into account ... since I'm on top it must be "awesomness" I can't edit this because I can't see the text so

doing some googling it is based on user's abilities to "give" or "take" rep points from other users. The more rep you have the more points you can give or take away. The bar also changes to red and possibily other colors as well.
