In der Debatte über Falschmeldungen im Internet prescht das Innenministerium vor: Nach SPIEGEL-Informationen will man eine Einrichtung im Kanzleramt aufbauen, die Desinformationskampagnen bekämpft.

Germany is instituting an actual Ministry of Truth. Can a German speaker please verify that that is the actual proposed name?

      Back when I was ten.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

That's not what the article says.

        • BeBro, unless you shape up I am going to have a little "chat" with my homeboy Beelzebub. You don't want your name a part of that conversation, if you get my meaning...

Germany IS instituting an actual Ministry of Truth. Kidicious said so.

Best to call someone at the ministry to find out

Are you qualified to translate German?

              • Yes, the question is, how's your English? Because from that BBC article it's clear that it's not even sure this is getting done, and if so, it would be no new "ministry". It's completely unclear what it would actually do. I suspect it would instantly order automatted drone strikes against anyone who makes or just even reads or likes fakenews, but if the BBC's hint of the EU's handling of misinformation is of any use I rather think what we are talking about here is a somewhat glorified team of fact checkers issuing news bulletins on their own, which is probably outrageous as govs never issue any kind of notes to the media

Do you even know why I referenced the "Ministry of Truth?"

                      • Let's just assume everyone* is dishonest so we do not have to get through the hassle to actually back up stuff with real evidence or arguments

Oh brother. Did I propose that a particular party was honest and that they should be the arbitrators of truth?
