  • Amazon Prime

Ok, while Christmas shopping this year, I figured I'd try the 30 day free trial for Amazon prime so I could take advantage of all the free 2day shipping. I expect to cancel in next month unless I find it really helpful and they offer the year at a deep deep discount to suck me in.

So I have a smart DVD player that hooks into things like this so I gave it a whirl. Yes, they offer all the premium channels but you have to pay extra, so I looked at their exclusive shows and only recognized THE TICK.

So I'm asking, does their service offer anything good?
Does anyone have any recommendations. I need them quick before the my free month expires.

I had a trial lotsa months ago, but ddn't do much with it.

From the shows listed here as good...

http://www.digitaltrends.com/movies/...rime-tv-shows/ (has some popup ad vid tho)

... I only know season one of "The man in the high castle" and two seasons of "Vikings". Liked both shows, but never watched further Vikings stuff and TMITHC still gets another season only early 2017 afaik...

(edit: ok, I know some more shows listed there, like ST TOS, but meant from those newer shows listed)

      I love it.
Aside from the most striking advantage (i.e. not having to pay for shipping of goods) I definitely like their assortment of shows for streaming.
May be different for other countries, but here in germany I have lotzs of shows that cannot be easily watched elsewhere (well, some of them on Netflix, which is much more expensive however).

For example "Halt and Catch Fire" (series about an IT startup in the 80s/beginning 90s ... with a lot of realistic things ... including more C-64 with CBM 1541 than I have seen in decades ), Vikings, The Man in the High Castle, Dr. Who (up to season 8), Walking Dead (up to season 6) or Mr. Robot (about a Computer Hacker who has certain mental problems ... I like especially, that hacking is depicted more realiustic than everywhere else)

I also like the Music streaming offered as part of Prime .. it has a good assortment of Symphonic Metal (which I would call my favored music genre) and also a lot of artists from the 80s/90s.

So, for me Prime is definitely worth the money

That's two mentions of man in the high castle. I'll say that when I was looking at their stuff and saw that it was based on Dick's work, I was interested.
I'll have to check it out.
I usually wait till I have the minimum for free shipping so not critical but I the 2 day part is nice.

Not big on the music but my wife may find it useful.

I already have a high end comcast package so I get a lot of the more premium channels on demand already.

I watch Halt & Catch Fire (totally awesome) and Mr. Robot on regular cable.

Don't they offer magazines and books for e-reading as part of Prime? I think there's a gaming thing as well...

Not sure if it is the same in other countries ... in germany it is one book per month that you can check out from their eLibrary.

Yeah, they do mention their free library, but I didn't look at it yet. (since I actually still read actual books ) but the wife uses a Kindle so I'll mention it to her.

Alpha House. I'll just go ahead and say 'You're welcome.' for the inevitable 'Thank you.' you're going to give me.

Man in the High Castle will have season 2 out on the 16th. Season 1 is kinda slow to start, but if you stick it out, it gets REALLY good.

Well since I only have a guaranteed one month, I'd better hurry. At least this includes time off over the holidays.

My wife got it for the year...

I occasionally watch the Grand Tour recently, and I get a free book about once per month.

A couple of shows I've watched and enjoyed from it:
Man in the High Castle (so a +1).
                        Lucifer.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

In some markets they have same day service. The Tampa market has this (Living in Pinellas County these days ). During the summer, I needed a new pool filter and ordered it from work...it was sitty by my front door when I got home. That was pretty cool.

Same here for many articles of Prime ... if we order them before noon, they will get delivered in the evening

Amazon Prime's selection of ****ty horror movies is better than Netflix's selection of ****ty horror movies. If it had a $5000 budget then you might find it on Amazon Prime.
