I am biased toward the creation of an ever-expanding telepathic techno-blob. Not sure why that would motivate belief in an historical Jesus.

      • There simply isn't evidence supporting the existence of Jesus, which is a myth that has been retold many times. It is a mythical story.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

        • I mean kentonio already posted one piece of evidence. You might not find that evidence convincing for whatever reason, but your claim that there's none is already just plainly wrong.

Evidence needs to be credible to qualify as evidence. Sorry. If it isn't, it is silly conjecture and belief.

            • I have this dreary feeling that he's going to go dredging up the "pagan Christs" rot again. So here's a dying-and-rising god from the other side of the damn Atlantic, who bears at least as much resemblance to Jesus as any of the alleged pagan archetypes but could not possibly have served as an influence or been derived from Jesus.

In your version of reality a Roman senator who lived just 20 years after the time Jesus is supposed to have died isn't a 'credible' historical source? Despite the fact he openly despised the Christians, yet describes an execution and responsible procurator and that tallies up with the biblical account?

That's supposed to just be a coincidence is it? Him naming the person, the organization, the execution and the guy who ordered it?

                  • That is conjecture.

                      • Well, the Raphael dude he posted first acknowledged Tacitus and Josephus, but noted that their records were in the possession of Christians and could have been altered. Which would be true of absolutely any evidence there could possibly have been, which means GC insta-wins the argument by virtue of unreasonable standards.

Do you believe Mohammed was a real person?
