Don't hold referendums on anything serious. Use them to name new bridges or schools, with limited choices.

Well it's historically clear that in, particularly latin america but also worldwide, the US has supported fascists/non democrats/ corrupted elites against the people in order to put them/keep the latter to power and plunder their countries resources, alongside them.
I'd not be surprised if this is the case in colombia.
