It always depends on the shows running ... I'll watch some of them, if new seasons are available on TV ... for example Arrow, Walking Dead or iZombie.

Likewise I have some shows on Amazon Prime that I watch when new seasons are available ... for example Elementary, Vikings or Fear the Walking Dead (and one that I buy for streaming when available on Amazon: Game of Thrones)

Therefore the time spent streaming or wathching TV is sometimes more and sometimes less

            You... don't... own a TV...

That's horrible. How do you even function and live? J/K

I watch local team sports. 4-10 hours is about right.
              I also like NCIS.

4 to 10 hours a week is significant? You can do that watching the evening news.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Regular TV is a bad joke. I sometimes hang up in front of a TV to shut my brain off for which it is good. But other than watching a series I *really like (and which I get these days mostly from disc/stream or so to avoid TV ad barrages) the standard TV stuff is often absurdly bad, but it still manages to reach a lot of ppl so that even the most silly content gets way more attention than it deserves.

When I was eight or so, I really really really really REALLY wanted "Ninja turtles subterranean sewer hockey." It was basically a standard table hockey game where you flick levers or something to make the little figures swing around and send the puck flying into other figures who can flick spastically in turn. It was big, clunky, and cost something outrageous. I lack the coordination to play such games competently and have no interest in sports as such. But that didn't keep me from lusting after this giant hunk of plastic crap, because the ads made it look AWESOME and INTENSE.

I'd really like my kids to grow up without a direct line to Madison Avenue. Haven't owned a TV in years. My boys like Youtube, where at present you can skip over most of the ads and they're usually for something we wouldn't want anyhow.

You could also teach your boys to be skeptical of ads.

I remember Lori (? correct me if I'm wrong) posted once here we live in the golden age of tv, which I understood as praise for the better shows/series in the category of GoT, Breaking Bad or smiliar.

Thing is to me Kraut TV seems mostly unaffected by this move towards quality in tv and remains embarrassingly bad. Not that I expect it to crank out GoT-like shows en masse, but I see it does not even reach the writing/narrative quality level I do see in TV shows coming from other European countries. IMO it's not so much a prob of lack of money or creativity, more of the structure of TV here - we have either private stations producing lotsa cheap stuff themselves, or public stations which are slow and cumbersome institutions...

I just don't know how the balance between good/watchable and bad/unwatchable stuff in tv is elsewhere...

My parents tried, very hard. They were powerless against the allure of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES HEROES IN A HALF-SHELL.

1.5 hours of TV daily constitutes a "massive" part of your life?

It's in the similar threads section down below. I made a thread about a very bizarre show involving a young woman who was accidentally impregnated by her doctor by mistake.

Accidentally AND by mistake? That's double-plus ungood.
