Yesterday was the hottest day of the year, (according to one station)
Not a good day for our AC to fail. We'll see how much this one costs.

My room (where I spend most of my time because I'm a misanthropic hermit) is upstairs. The first floor is a cool 70 or so, but the temperature seems to rise by about 1 degree for each step I go up, with the consequence being that my room is like 85 degrees.

Damn, that isn't good. Even with the AC failing yesterday, it only got up to about 83 in the house. We'll see if it gets worse today.

Well, there's no thermostat in my room, so I could be making this up.

/me turns on space heater, which does have a temperature sensor of some sort.

Okay, so it's only 81 degrees in my room, which means the temperature is only increasing 2/3 of a degree per step.

Good luck. We had some. It was only a faulty timer relay switch, so we didn't have to cough up 3K or so for a new one.
Since it's an old unit, the recharge was expensive but thrilled not to have to replace it. But it's 25 years old so we'll see.
The guy said 10 years is good for a unit but the older ones were made better it seems. It's already down to 78.

You could always just stick your head in the freezer. My extensive knowledge of thermodynamics says there's no problem with that.

I have my house set for 77 (WABC) degrees, and I take it up to 82 when it gets into the upper nineties.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

How about NINETY-ONE THOUSAND DAMN DEGREES?
