This doesn't entirely explain it, but one thing to remember is that posts in the OT did not count until 2006 (which I've just realized was a decade ago...). Also the mods used to apply PCRs (post count reductions) as penalties. Also there have been forum blips (like the most recent one) that hit post counts.

This doesn't entirely explain it, but one thing to remember is that posts in the OT did not count until 2006 (which I've just realized was a decade ago...). Also the mods used to apply PCRs (post count reductions) as penalties. Also there have been forum blips (like the most recent one) that hit post counts.

Contrary to common slander, I post a lot on-topic. People used to do that here, you know - right up to Civ 5 turning out to suck...

Ought to put a modest effort into the folders for Civs that don't suck, is all - somebody told me recently that the Pit is like some twisted nightmare version of Cheers, where everybody knows your name and is sick to death of hearing it.

A little traffic in on-topic would go a long way towards drawing fresh meat here to the Pit 666 Apolyton by way of remedy. A handful of guys each exerting themselves in various folders half as hard as Oerdin does in 6 would make all the difference...

It don't have to be all over because 5 sucked, BE sucked, even if 6 sucks - 1-4 and Alpha Centauri were still good...

I agree that if people could make a few on topic posts per day then that would go a long way towards attracting new members. When we do get someone new they quickly notice no one has posted in that subforum for six months and then leave.

I suppose it says something about the quality / popularity of CivV / BE that Civ3 just got lumped into the "good" catagory...
