and your mealy mouthed attempts to deny this obvious fact make kid's post look coherent by comparison, which is quite an achievement.

Dislike of a religion is not racism; this is more analogous to old-timey dislike of Italian and Irish immigrants because of their Catholicism. Still wrong, but if we could coin a general term for "irrationally biased against a particular religion," preferably not involving further abuse of the -phobia suffix, that'd be greeeeeaaat.

It's not dislike, it's irrational hatred of a whole group of people most of whom are not european.

that's racism alright, the real deal. cover it up with "culture", "religion" whatever else poppycock, it's still racism because it steals people of their indivinduality (after having bombed them to splinders, which is why they're mad)

a notesworthy addition would be that the world is not at a 18th century US state.

There would be entirely rational reasons for being leery about people of certain religions, e.g. Scientologists, Satanists (or any other group that disguises Randian worship-of-dickishness under ritual trappings), Aztecs, Moloch-worshippers. Now, the first two are pathetic fringe groups that don't matter, and the second two are mercifully extinct. However, it remains true in principle that belief systems have implications, and it is not necessarily wrong to suspect a belief system. In this particular case, much as I dislike Muhammad, most modern Muslims appear to have no interest in following his horrible example, so I don't assume your typical Muslim is going to be a psycho. There will doubtless be long-term cultural implications for Europe absorbing so many, but that calls for a more thoughtful mode of discussion than a Trumpian "they're sending us rapists," etc. Or, for that matter, calling everybody who isn't a contemporary progressive a Nazi.

Wouldn't that make them the racists, since they hate the West because the West bombed them? That's like hating black people because a black person bombed you. Do you ever put your opinions to the test? Try thinking rationally for a moment.

oredin isn't just a critic of islam; his bigotry is based on origin, not (just) religious persuasion. see for example his posts in the thread i made about a christian palestinian family some time ago. he's been doing it for a long time and lately he's got even worse.

he uses religious criticism as cover for his racial prejudice, but it's so transparent that it's hard to believe anyone falls for it. likewise, he doesn't really care about anti-semitism; what he cares about is having a stick to beat arabs with.

                    Maybe memory DNA exists?

Could it be that his greatgrand parents were racist slave owners and now his racist brain cells can't get their quota of bigotry since slavery is abolished in the US and it's generally frowned upon, so he gets his fix by being racist towards arabs?

i don't think it's fair to blame oredin's long dead ancestors for his racism.

more seriously, he was part of an army that invaded and occupied an arab country, and conquerors often exhibit disdain and prejudice towards the conquered. all that was a long time ago, though, and as i said, he's got worse recently. perhaps he's been sucked into the online hate vortex or got caught up in the new right-wing populism trend that's taking in idiots in both europe and america.

                        • DD once told him to seek councelling for the racism against muslims/arabs that his trip to iraq left him with.

And DD is from the deep american south. Bright ideas only come once every 12 years or so down there. If he was to have another good one so soon, he would get mentally exhausted and it's not fair.

Although in all seriousness is disgusting to even entertain the though of caring for a ...... and not the people he helped get killed. It's just that he's been around so long and he wasn't always a racist **** pollytubbie.

                          • BE, I live in the Florida Panhandle right now. You cannot even get any deeper South than I am; if you try, you wind up in the Yankee-transplant sector, then Disneyworld, then the Miami/Greater Cuba complex. I am in, as my wife calls it, Lower Alabama. My anecdotal experience says that people here are no dumber or more biased than they were in Maryland, within an hour's driving distance of the capital.

C0ckney, I've encountered Dinner saying blatantly racist things before ("Dirty Persian whore at work wants me in her hairy Persian snatch," etc.). But I think the larger phenomenon at work here is more helpfully compared to what we used to do to Catholic immigrants. I don't think anyone back then thought that, if baby Seamus or Maria were abducted and raised as a WASP, s/he would grow up with an irrepressible urge to genuflect at anyone who spoke Latin and hated America. Possibly they believed that Seamus/Maria would be a cretin due to a suspect phrenological profile, but I think the pseudoscientific racism and patriotic anti-Catholicism were largely separate issues.

In both cases--then and now--the dislike was based on first a general ignorance of what the religion typically entails, second on a longstanding animosity towards it for political reasons, and third on a near-comical tendency to overestimate religion's effect on the individual believer. Which is how people seriously and with a straight face believed that John "I would dry-hump that Georgia O'Keefe painting if my bad back let me" Kennedy would be taking orders from the Vatican.

Seriously funny that kennedy would be taking orders from the pope

No, his animus is specifically against Arabs. He's definitely racist, that he then tars all muslims with the same brush is where the ignorance comes in. Racism first, followed by a healthy dollop of ignorance and clearly, from the example above, latent misogyny.

Obviously when the red mist of racism descends on Oerdin, other deep-seated prejudices can't help welling up too. Actually I've just remembered his awful boasts about sleeping with and discarding young women like they were trash to be used...

It actually makes him more of a sad case than Kid, watching him spiral into some kind of lazy Kid and Ben parody. You'd be tempted to say that he was trolling, but this hatred seems too raw and visceral to be anything other than sincere.

Oerdin, in all seriousness, perhaps you've got some kind of PTSD from your time in Iraq? Something's obviously wrong with you right now as you changed massively this last year or so. I honestly think you need to address whatever issues are affecting you...

You're not a very nice person any more...
