The US house of representatives voted (against the wishes of Obama) against taking up syrian and iraqi refugees.

That´s exactly the behavior I already hated during the Bush government ... making a mess and then having others clean it up.

And actually it is the republicans again, as the house of representatives is dominated by the republicans ... I am so totally not surprised

It's slightly interesting they managed a veto proof majority in the House. Makes me curious what machinations are going on in the Senate.

According to the article they furtunately only almost managed this.
Seems like they were exactly one vote short for this
(290 votes needed and they got 289 votes)

So Obama can still fight againstthe vote

But I agree, would be interesting to know how the republicans "convinced" almost 50 democrats to vote against their party (and which of the democrat representatives voted differently than the republicans expected, despite their attempts at "convincing" them, letting the vote fall short of the 2/3 majority)

They don't want to be accused of being soft on terrorism during their next election.

Nothing like doubling down on stupid. But yeah, worried about the next election.

Even though you'd think there would be some benefit campaigning that you didn't vote for this.

              Good for the House.

You might not like Republicans calling for a ban on refugees. But it’s smart politics.

I don't think anyone's questioning why the Republicans are doing so ...

It was an attempt to explain to rah why the benefit he claims to not voting for it isn't as large as he might wish.

I still think there might be some niche places that there might be benefit, but yeah based on the survey it looks like that niche is smaller that I thought. (not wished)

Maybe if all he 'immigrants' go directly to Guantanamo, the Repugs would approve. Guantanamo is part of the US...

It gets even worse from the GOP ...
Republican Ben Carson now compared syrian refugees to rabid dogs

Trump suggests tracking all Muslims in the US, while Carson’s comments mark further low point after House vote singles out people fleeing Middle East conflict

There definitely are some people who are a disgrace for the USA
