I imagine mixed-gender restrooms present a somewhat higher sexual assault/harassment risk, especially less-frequented ones. They might also become even better havens for prostitute/john meetups in the seedier parts of town.

EDIT: in this case, they're talking about one-stall bathrooms, which probably needn't be segregated anyway.

That might be true, but I have trouble believing that was the rationale when they were first instituted. And even though gays make up a small percentage of the population, it's still going, "We've implemented this important measure to help prevent heterosexual sexual assault/harassment! Homosexuals? Who cares!"

It makes sense to have segregated multi-stall restrooms because otherwise women might get confused and **** in the urinal. (Men might also **** in the urinal but this is usually intentional.)

Damned auto-censor. By "**** in the urinal" I of course meant "defecate in the urinal", as opposed to "fornicate in the urinal" or "slang-word-for-vagina in the urinal" or whatever

I imagine it was more of a general propriety thing, yes. I don't think it would be a big deal to go unisex under most circumstances--locker rooms with showers, for example, would be an exception.

Women are in for an awful shock when they see the way men treat public toilets.

Sometimes I use the women's just to avoid that mess.

Women will be shocked at how relatively clean the bathroom is compared to the ladies' room.

Women are much worse on public bathrooms than men, despite stereotypes.

My SO and I wilk use the toilet when we go to a restaurant. Not at the same time, obvs. Women's bathrooms are almost always worse.

And remember that this is Philly we're talking about and it'll probably be worse there.

I think it's a matter of perception. Woman HAVE to sit down, so they have no choice but to come in contact with the bathroom.
That gives them a different perspective than men, who only have to pee into a urinal most of the time.

Philly's ordinance is about single-occupancy lavatories. This UoT situation has no relevance.

Not blood but women don't urinate all over the walls and floor like men do.

Peeing into the urinal means you don't have to pee into the toilet. And hover pooping is much harder than hover peeing, so most men will sit (unless some ****ing shy bladder ******* with poor aim has splashed all over the seat). Women are more likely to hover pee, wetting the seat, so then another woman decides to hover poop and wets it even more etc.
