  • China is really digging itself into a hole here. This does surprise me a little.

BEIJING (AP) — China's military will take "all necessary" measures in response to any future U.S. Navy incursions into what it considers its territorial waters around islands in the South China Sea,

maybe we'll soon see whats what. IF they do nothing next time it will be a mistake. IF they do do something next time it will be a mistake. someone over there in power has messed up.

    • Perhaps "all necessary" measures just encompasses filing lawsuits in International Court.

I doubt if you actually have a relevant response.

              • Yeeeeaaahhhh I'ma clue you in on a secret of international geopolitics: it all basically works like Poly. Slowwhand (US) says something disrespectful to UR (China, even though he hasn't posted in ages). UR says something disrespectful right back. Sloww could be a grown-up and let it go, but then he'd be seen to back down after getting dissed, so he escalates by saying something even more disrespectful. UR, following identical reasoning, does the same thing. It pretty much continues from there, with each new round of aggression delivered in the ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that it will DESTROY the other one's position. Or so each of them tells himself, to conceal from himself the creeping fear that everyone else will laugh at his tiny limp penis.

The irony is that nobody else on Poly (international community) actually gives a flying **** about the issue. Most of them are barely cognizant of the issue, or that there even was an issue. Really, they wish Sloww and UR would STFU. The whole fight is cluttering up the forum, poisoning the atmosphere, and increasing the risk of things getting out of hand and Aeson banning somebody (thermonuclear war, or worse yet something bad happens to the economy). The only people who are really invested in it are people like AAHZ (sort of a catchall for little jerkoff countries whose standing is so low already that they have nothing to lose from the fight, plus they hate both participants).

                Ya dig?

There is no international court of law for maritime law when it comes to territorial waters dispute between two sovereign countries. There's only the hague and its rulings are not even binding. let alone just since it will also seek geopolitical compromise.

So if someone disrespects your territorial waters you stick a gun to his temple and whisper "leave".

The only exception to that is harmless passage which means the military ships must have all their weapons systems switched off. Cruise at specified speed and in a predetermined corridor. Did the US had all its military systems switched off?

And if I'm not mistaken US doesn't even have common water borders with China. It's just doing that to tell you to keep boiling rice.

It's actually cheese and then it's tyropita (and then the variations kourou, sfoliata, horiatiki etc etc)

or there's meat and then it's kreatopita (but it's quite heavy)

There are no courts but there are treaties which China is a member of, coincidentally, those treaties say no raised or artificial structures count as far as the 12 nm exclusion zone goes so the Communist Chinese are breaking a treaty they have signed and are just hoping no one calls them on it. It is a decent strategy.

It threatens shipping, they know in any conflict the first thing the US would shut down is imports such as oil so they are currently building the world's largest strategic petroleum reserve in record time plus they are building two pipeline to bring in crude from Russia. This really does blunt the effects of any US blockade. Their export economy would still tank but if they had to they could convert factories to building military supplies and equipment to employ people. That would quickly add massive deficit spending though and their economy would likely still contract so they aren't likely to pull the trigger on a whim. They just want to be in a position where they can if they want to.

It would only be a matter of time before their navy and airforce was put out of action by the US but likely they just want to hold us off long enough to take Taiwan then hope we won't want to spend the blood and treasure booting them out again. I suspect they would also have to deal with protracted resisted center by the Nationalists as well as guarilla warfare in the occupied portions of the island.

Wild cards: China's cyber warfare to knock out infrastructure like power plants, water systems, and sewage systems. If the US was willing to blow up dams in China potentially killing tens of millions and making around 100 million homeless. Their power grid would also be easy to knock out but they could always up the antenna by invading South Korea.

                            • Also, the Chinese hold all your supermungus debt. If they do something bad, you're off the cliff.
In that respect maybe just parading showing your bare behinds is the best strategy

Only because it's an american forum and not an international one as you think.
