Either way: I think there may be a certain value in keeping around a vestigial monarchy. It might be nice to have the word "king" or "queen" attached to a parasitic inbred ninny who shows up in a Nazi suit for Halloween. Sure, it's a waste of money, but it encourages people to hold the whole concept of despotism in contempt. Much like the established Anglican church seems to be doing a bang-up job of encouraging atheism, except I actually regret that.
