Can you think of any other reason why DMV offices in predominantly black counties were chosen to be shut down?Originally posted by Patroklos View PostSo you didn't. Have fun with your conspiracy theories

It's obviously a coincidence that every one of the 31 DMV offices they're closing is in a majority black county even though Alabama is a majority white state, nothing to see here, clearly you're just a reverse racist.Originally posted by MrFun View PostCan you think of any other reason why DMV offices in predominantly black counties were chosen to be shut down?

Also, if this is a racist conspiracy to disenfranchise blacks, especially before the 2016 presidential election, it shouldn't have any effect on the outcome of the race because the last time Alabama went to a Democratic candidate was in 1976. Before that it split it's 1960 vote between Kennedy and Harry F. Byrd and voted for a Democrat, Adlai Stevenson in 1956. So as far as electoral college presidential campaign results goes, this will be meaningless.
EDIT: And I won't rule out that this may be a racist conspiracy to disenfranchise blacks; but it will take more than an article on addictinginfo to convince me.

I'm due for a trip to the DMV, got to du tags and license renewal. I always wait unti last minute... we have a nice DMV here, in and out in 20 minutes. why is that?? if I go south 45 minutes there is a DMV, it's a freakin leper colony. 75+ people at anytime. all taking out I guess house loans by the time it takes.

I called the Department of Justice earlier today, to report my concern about possible voting rights violations in Alabama; they transferred me to the right department, and I reported my concern on the phone.
The person I spoke with took my name and phone number, and said that she entered my report into their electronic system, and that someone will call me back soon, to follow up with me on this.
I don't know if this will actually lead to any meaningful action, but I wanted to do something.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

A person's right to vote is not based on whether or not who they vote for, will win. That is beside the point and the principle.Originally posted by korn469 View PostNumber of fees collected from customers compared to costs to maintain facilities (employee salaries, rent/mortgage, utilities, etc.)

True enough, but so far I don't think anyone has shown that the Alabama government has disenfranchised any voters as of yet. I don't think that maintaining a valid government photo ID is an onerous requirement to voting, because one principle of democracy should be one person, one vote correct? If so, showing ID is a good way to verify a person is exercising their right to vote in the proper manner. Just as many people think that having background checks and requiring that person to show ID before exercising their second amendment rights. As of right now, Alabama may have closed some DMVs, but I haven't read a single article saying any open AL DMV has denied access or IDs to minorities. If there is proof that there was a racial reason to disenfranchise people via, the DMV then Alabama needs rules that govern the placement of DMVs. For example, no DMV shall be more than a X minute from any community in Alabama. For every X amount of people there must be a DMV. All DMVs shall open at X:00 a.m. and close X:00 p.m. Each DMV shall have X amount of workers for every X amount of people.Originally posted by MrFun View PostA person's right to vote is not based on whether or not who they vote for, will win. I know minorities get screwed over every day, but so do rural and poor people of every race. America may be a very racist, but first and foremost we are an urban centered plutocracy. It's better to be a billionaire along with being a minority than to be poor and white.

That is a valid alternative but it takes several months to get so that won't help folks who haven't yet heard about the ID requirements until they show up on election day.Originally posted by Main_Brain View PostTry http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
