can we start with the royal family?

I love my country, but it took bigger balls for France to tell the US to get ****ed over Iraq than it did for Blair to poodle his way into sending our troops.

well it depends on what business really. big business is obviously strongly in favour of the EU, but as mobius' survey shows, small business opinion is much more divided. there are a decent number of tory MPs whose raison d'être is causing trouble over europe, and they'll waste no time making life hard for cameron, on whom they waste no love, especially if he comes back with little to show for his negotiations.

What middle course? I don't see any way he isn't forced to take a side, unless he just sits on the fence, in which case the big voices in the party are going to come out in favour of staying in regardless.
giving it lukewarm support; saying that he wants the UK to stay in and then doing very little/no campaigning; that kind of thing.

I think you're underestimating quite how devastating an exist would be, not just to the economy but to the millions of British people living in other EU countries. In the face of a massive economic hit, having supported the exit side could mean career ruin.
and i think you're overestimating it, but we shall see.

and as for what mobius says about leaving the EU because of the english, any result will be because of the english because they are by far the biggest electorate. he might also recall that wales is the UK's second most euro-sceptic region...
