  • Aeson and Apolyton are really high tech

    This site has an IPv6 address. Very impressive. Verizon has rolled out IPv6 in my area and my phone now has a dual stack on the Verizon LTE network. But, earlier today, my phone got borked and only had an IPv6 address. Without a 6to4 gateway, I was only able to connect to sites that had IPv6 addresses. In addition, to Google, Facebook, and Yahoo, I was able to connect to Apolyton. Very impressive Aeson.

    Aeson - can you fix the thread title? Stupid autocorrect!

      Should've pretended you were referencing Wiglaf. Now you look like Dinner, who is a nice enough guy but just not in the same league.

          I have fixed the thread title. Though renaming the site Appleton was tempting.

            Do it!! These are my people...

            Linky:
            Appleton, Wisconsin

            OK, I was actually born in Fond du Lac, which is at southern end of Lake Winnebago. Appleton is at the north end, with Oshkosh in between.

            But the point is this: Every time I hear Ming or Rah say "Appleton," I think of my Wisconsin homeland. So why not match the site name to the way everyone likes to pronounce it?

              Aeson even has redundancy:
              for IPv6 - he has
              2400:cb00:2048:1::681c:a66
              and
              2400:cb00:2048:1::681c:b66

              for IPv4 - he has
              104.28.11.102
              and
              104.28.10.102

              Aeson is ready for the internet apocalypse

                  A new Internet addressing scheme that will allow for more than 4 billion devices (2^32) to be connected independently to the Internet at any one time. IPv6 can support 2^128 devices.

                      We also have a robust fallback for the zombie apocalypse. If ever a user should go for more than 6 weeks without posting or thanking a post, a DL will automatically be created with the naming convention Zombie_[Username]. Then a dedicated bot will randomly post variations on "BRAAAAINS..." using each of these zombie accounts whenever it encounters a post by a non zombie account.

                      A similar functionality is set up for the Rapture (eg. Raptured_[Username]: "Glory Be, Praise the Lord!"), though we are having some difficulties integrating the two systems given the resulting race conditions. Even so, the staff feels confident that both systems will be useful regardless of which event should occur. Essentially, this will help us maintain awareness of who has been zombified/raptured, so as to avoid inviting them to poly-meets.

                        Why wait?

                        Can you implement the bot zombies immediately?

                        Automate the spamming, trolling and flaming.

                            Yeah, apparently you already want for brains.
                            No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

                              I blame this thread for jinxing us into downtime

                              (Some problem with the backup system slowed the server down to a crawl, I couldn't even get into the host's control panel, let alone connect to the server.)
