    Texas sheriff shot pumping gas

    I just love journalism...

A Texas man faces a capital murder charge in the "execution-style shooting" of a sheriff's deputy while he was fueling his patrol car near Houston, authorities said.

Deputy Darren H. Goforth was in uniform when he was shot in the back Friday night in what authorities described as an unprovoked killing.

The suspect, identified as Shannon J. Miles, has been in police custody since Saturday.

His criminal history includes convictions of resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct with a firearm, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said.
Hickman warned that the tension against officers is getting out of hand.

"When the rhetoric ramps up to the point where calculated, cold-blooded assassination of police officers happen, this rhetoric has gotten out of control," Hickman said. "We've heard 'Black Lives Matter,' 'All lives matter.' Well, cops' lives matter too. So why don't we just drop the qualifier, and just say 'Lives Matter,' and take that to the bank."

After announcing the arrest, Hickman said investigators were still trying to determine a motive.

"The general climate of the that kind of rhetoric can be influential on people that do thing like that," he said.

The sheriff's department posted "#BlueLivesMatter. #BlackLivesMatter. All #LivesMatter." on its Twitter page Saturday.
I love how a known criminal with "disorderly conduct with a firearm" is clearly related to a hashtag because of his race...

Black Lives Matter Protesters Chant: ‘Pigs In A Blanket, Fry ‘Em Like Bacon’

This maybe an example of the overheated rhetoric from BLM the sheriff was referring to.

Temporally. The Pigs in a Blanket chant happened hours after the execution. Personally though, I find the rhetoric debate to be a study in hypocrisy of both sides. The same people seeking to distance protest marches calling for dead cops are the same people that said Bill O'Reilly calling George Tiller a baby killer lead to his death and also blamed Sarah Palin for the attempted assassination of Giffords due to a map with a target on it. It's amazing that the people that found such leaps of logic ridiculous are so quick to use the same tactics now that it has become politically convenient.

Are they literally the same people (as in you can cite an example of a specific person who claimed both of those things) or are you just assuming all liberals/conservatives think the same thing?

The author of the linked article Dino shared certainly seemed to enjoy linking the march in MN to the murder in TX.

I'm a bit confused. Why didn't the deputy just kill the criminal ? I'm pretty sure that he was armed and easily could have prevented his own death using his gun.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Based on reporting he was approached from behind without the shooter saying anything.

So what ? He was carrying a gun and that protects his life. Several posters here and NRA claims that it is all you need.

But, getting rid of guns is bad... What did the poor gun do? Guns are Fun! Guns help solve problems!

Ah, the fact you were baiting flew over my head.

In that logic the reporter and cameraman should have been toting guns too. Even though the cameraman probably wouldn't have been able to draw fast enough given he was concentrating on his job. Same with the reporter.

Actually no. You are quite right - even if they have had guns it wouldn't have prevented their killing. Fact is that the right to carry a weapon wont save your life - only getting rid of guns do that.

Edit: just to make it clear - I feel sorry that this officer got killed.

Ditto. My goal was more the bad reporting.
