As far as I can tell, it's just another part of the culture here and no one takes it seriously, but you bet that it's a prime reason no new people join, as it would definitely turn off anyone who didn't realize it was not serious.

New posters are hypothetical/potential goods over the long term. The poster right in front of you needs to be called a smegface right this second. Otherwise he'd never know what a smegface he is. And that would be tragic.

Perhaps you expect not nice aspects in Mobius posts? "Nice Mobius" has taken quite some getting used to.

I think Mobius has been successful in his attempts to be nice.

And kept it up all through August.

I think OBYH is a general-purpose exclamation. It can mean "holy hell, you're a tool" or "**** you, *******" or "you're very nice" or anything else depending on tone of voice.

No, actually TMM is right. In the South it generally is pretty passive aggressive - or is used ironically by people mocking the passive aggressiveness inherent in the phrase.
