Uh...I was okay with demolishing it. It's boring.

Nice piece of stone carving, but meh...

Of course we should wipe Washington and Jefferson off of Mt. Rushmore while we are at it....those evil slave owners!

Same guy did both...he must be a closet confederate! Maybe we should just wipe out both?

Just like a traitor piece of garbage to declare American presidents with the leaders of a rebel group who wanted to preserve slavery.

      You are a true scumbag.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Just the ones who owned slaves. Or do you suddenly appreciate slave owners. You want the nation to have a monument to slave owners!?! Wow...

        Racist!

Try to focus on the issue at hand. Your ilk already tried to break up this great nation, I won't let you do the same to this discussion.

My ilk. You know, I AM proud to be a Southerner, but not for the reasons you think. My family never owned slaves, but they did suffer mightily under rampaging Union forces. I had family members on both sides of the conflict. My Great Grandfather and his brothers fought on different sides.

If the truth is to be told...most people raised in the South are taught an incorrect history. I admit that I was a victim of that myself. In fact, I have many here (including you actually) that opened my eyes to things that are never taught in the South.

The war was about slavery...there is no way around it. It is a star in this nation's history that the Nation went to such great cost to right such a horrible wrong.

So...I applaud the steps that people are taking to eliminate the symbols of hatred that emerged from that war. However, if we remove all the evidence of what happened and all the memorials to it, then we are destined to lose sight of what happened. Stone Mountain should stay and be turned into a center that will actually teach the correct history to millions that believe that the war was over political freedom and not the for maintain the scourge of slavery.

Who says remove all of it? We are removing prominent landmarks, not burning books. If you live in a perpetual state of "slippery slope", then that's probably a mental illness or something.

take care of that but don't let your symptoms become political

Slippery slope. Good concept. I imagine there are differing points of view on where to draw the line.

They could use the resulting stone in order to build social housings for poor indians ...
or to build addiction clinics for those indians who were made alcoholics by the fire-water of the white men.

Just chisel off the racist part and replace it with something nice.

Demolish or replace with me, Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill. We would fit right in.

Couldn't you just demolish the whole mountain, because that would be awesomely cool. You could start by painting the mountain with a giant confederate flag, then announce there's a South Will Rise Again barbeque happening up there. Then just detonate a nuke on the summit and you solve all sorts of problems in a single day.
