Jesus christ. Just when I thought our foreign policy couldn't get any more ****ed:

The Obama administration says the U.S. will continue to try to prevent hostage situations — and the Justice Department says it "does not intend to add to families' pain" if they pay ransoms.

This is only going to encourage more hostage-taking. We've seen that countries that pay up have their citizens targeted more. Plus, it funds our enemies. God damn.

Yes, how awful of us to not jail families who have tried to get their loved ones back rather than simply let them die. Nevermind that transfers of money can be traceable and could even be helpful in identifying terrorists. WE MUST MAKE FAMILIES PAY FOR TRYING TO SAVE THEIR LOVED ONES!

HC on statistics: the chance of [x] happening to you is so minute that it's not even worth worrying about.
Obama: 80 out of 300 million Americans have been held hostage in the last 14 years, we are not going to prosecute their families if they try to pay a ransom.
HC on Obama: OMG OMG OMG OMMG OMG OMG WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE

If soemone's family member gets taken hostage we should pre-emptively ship them to Guantanamo before they get a chance to send any material assistance to terrorists. Our national security is at stake.

Ideally we could build a time machine and use it to prevent Reagan from being elected

If you send your ransoms to me I will make sure they are put to good use.

So... you do realize Al-Qaeda in Iraq is fighting on the side of the Iranians against ISIS? We provide logistics and air support. Hopefully you have no problem with our new allies.

Yeah, this enemy of our enemy thing is getting really bizarre these days.

BTW, the youngest brother of my best friend was kidnapped in Syria (he was working with MSF). After 6 months of hell for him and his family, they got him out by paying a ransom.

My feelings in short: **** YOU and your sheltered little life.

Most of the problems on this site would be solved if stupid people stopped sharing their opinions

                              But that would be boring
