IIRC General Galtieri and his Junta tried to take the Falklands when their power was slipping. (That that did not work out well for them because they lost the war. Had they kept the falklands........ who knows.
Yup. Talk about backfire. The falklans might even be Argentine now if it wasn't for the invasion.

[edit:] The defeat did hasten democratic elections, and the fall of the military government. If it wasn't for it, then there might have been another internal rearrangement inside the military, and at least a couple extra years of military government, but all the human rights abuses were starting to come to light, so even a successful invasion wouldn't have saved them in the long run.

China has limited amphibious capability but Taiwan has a significant army. I don't think Taiwan would fall in days like Norway did in WW2.

Not to mention the U.S. has an enormous amphib capability for a counter invasion if needed.

Not since Pearl Harbor, it hasn't.

Wall Street Journal, why must you be like this???

Strange, I get that too now, but I didn't when I found it.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
