I did this exact experiment more or less way back in high school with cheap commodity ICs in my Digital Electronics class I used a digital oscilloscope because we only had one analogue scope and it weighed about as much as the school building but the point stands that a basic understanding of digital electronics reveals that the whole analog/digital debate is total nonsense.

There's one exception: If you have a digital amplifier, such as a class D amplifier, then you DO get digital-introduced harmonics because a class D amplifier produces non-square waveforms through dithering, and thus adds harmonic components. The advantage to class D amps is that the transistors are always either fully on or fully off, and are thus far more power efficient.
