A thread for detailing moderator action in regards to [Civil] discussion. Not all cases will be posted here, only those that detail a situation in which civility was previously not well defined.

Case: [Thread****ters please **** off]
Ruling: Tag is an invalid attempt at [Civil]
Action: Due to the valuable content of the thread, previously undefined rules in regards to the use of [Civil], and the intent of the author, the tag was changed to [Civil] and non-civil discussion moved to it's own thread Lost and Found. No punitive action was taken in regards to the tag or non-civil discussion as the rules had not been clarified at that point.

Pre-emptive: Misuse of [tags] may result in the tags being removed/changed. Egregious misuse of [tags] may warrant punitive action against the thread starter. Humorous/flippant [tags] are allowed so long as they keep within site rules.

Case Closed!

Case: Direct Insults in a [Civil] thread, racial slurs
Ruling: Racial slurs are not allowed whether in or out of civil threads, direct insults are not allowed in civil threads.
Action: Offender received a warning first in regards to racial slurs, then a 2 month ban when that warning was disregarded in a [Civil] thread. Posts which the insults were made and those which addressed the offending posts were moved to the Lost and Found.
