It seems a lot light. Only 50% more than the amount of time she spent torturing him is astounding.

      and from the article

Medkour's prison sentence is considered "convertible" under French law, which means she could eventually escape jail time and perform community service, wear an electronic bracelet or be allowed to work part time.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Yeah just saw that. Apparently the defense said she'd suffered abuse as a kid, was an alcoholic and suffered from bi-polar disorder. Despite that, 18 months for a year of keeping someone as a practical slave is way too light. Should have been either time in a psychiatric facility or a longer jail sentence.

That's my thoughts too, but we must remember that we're talking about France.

France is still pretty old fashioned about women. Coming from England the casual sexism here was pretty astonishing at first.

                    Define "old fashion."
I'm thinking this is some kind of insane European standard.

Yeah, an insane European standard where we think women should have as much right as a guy to progress in their career, and be treated with the same respect and dignity in their private lives as men are.

Ken, why are you spelling defence as defense. I've seen it a few times. Are you Americanizing?
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

In the US we believe that they have to earn it (more so).

Worry more about him when he starts spelling color and Civilization correctly.

I've spent about 10 years writing for a primarily US audience as part of my work. These days I end up using American words without even noticing..
