The impressive thing about Appomattox was 1) That Lee was willing to surrender instead of wage an insurgency (if he hadn't, who knows when it would have ended and how many more would have died), and 2) that Grant was willing to give clemency and allowed Lee's troops to return home.
Most civil wars end in atrocities against the losing side. The US Civil War ended about as gracefully as possible, thanks to Lee and Grant.If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

Johnson was, in my opinion, the worst president the United States has ever had. Interestingly, it appears he was probably more racist than Stonewall Jackson and even Lee. Or so I've read.
