I actually think we got the best deal we could expect.

The Israelis, otoh, are not likely to wait if they see anything that looks like nuke production from the Iranians. In all honesty, given Iran's statements towards Israel in the past, who can blame them? My point was to the possibility of Israel attacking if they felt threatened...not suggesting another war in the ME...and addressing the fact that with this agreement in place that the Israelis could probably expect little direct support.
it seems we're in agreement on the deal.

i doubt israel will attack, and if they do, the iranians have probably taken enough measures to protect themselves. in any case israel isn't really worried about an iranian nuclear attack; they have nuclear weapons themselves and the international community would never tolerate an unprovoked nuclear strike. what they are really worried about is the increased leverage a nuclear weapon would give the iranians in the region. in any case this deal makes both iran obtaining a nuclear weapon and an israeli attack less likely.

plus does that mean we're going to be able to get back cheap oil deliveries from iran? I hope that stupid embargo is lifted (although with the new gov that would have happened anyway)

it has to coincide with the lifting of sanctions to greek and hungarian agricultural products from russia on the 9th of april for extra punch

I feel like I've fallen into a bizarro world. France (of all countries!) is accusing the US of surrendering to Iran in order to get a nuke deal.

France has actually been more proactive in many ways about taking on islamism than we have, they have every right to call us out given what they've been doing in Mali and other African trouble spots.

We can kick the can as long as we want on this. We're not going into Iran and Iran isn't going to stop trying to ensure their autonomy from the West. That's life.

True. I'm just curious why we felt the need to give them a lot of carrots only to leave them as a nuclear weapon threshold state.

Oh and limiting the freedom of Muslims in their country...that too. That's an integral part to this right?

Maybe we're at "shoulder shrug" territory now.

Apathy would probably have led us to walk away rather than protect the program.

But how are you going to get sweet food for the meetings if there are no meetings. Sometimes I wonder if diplomatic **** like this is just an excuse to get out of DC for some people.

Surely there is a secret codicle dealing with Exxon somewhere in the agreement or why would we bother, right?
