It does if you do it right. Of course there may be other (purely monetary of course) considerations involved in wiping Iran off the face of the Earth. Maybe HC can tell us what the cost of that would be... so we can decide if it's economically efficient or not.

The Russian reaction is expected. I assume we will see transfers of Russian "peaceful" nuclear technology to Iran once the sanctions are lifted and probably a contract or two to build some nuke plants.

I wonder if Israel will go to war alone if they determine that a nuclear weapon is being built and the west can't or won't confirm.

They won't go to war alone. Egypt and Saudi Arabia will go to war with them. We, however, will not, because the president is a moron.

if there's one thing the middle east needs it's more war.

and also it's very unlikely that saudi arabia will go to war with iran. there are a number of wars going on currently where each backs a different side, and this pattern is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

It looks like a good deal in principle and it surely it is better than any of the alternatives.

The most probable outcome is an nuclear arms race in the Middle East. Not a shooting war.

possibly, though the only nuclear armed country in the middle east presently is israel. on the hand the various proxy wars are happening right now.

edit: actually proxy wars maybe isn't the right term here, they're better characterised an internal conflicts where other powers have chosen to involve themselves in.

I guess that would be a big "Duh!"

I actually think we got the best deal we could expect.

The Israelis, otoh, are not likely to wait if they see anything that looks like nuke production from the Iranians. In all honesty, given Iran's statements towards Israel in the past, who can blame them? My point was to the possibility of Israel attacking if they felt threatened...not suggesting another war in the ME...and addressing the fact that with this agreement in place that the Israelis could probably expect little direct support.

I agree. Will be interesting to see what the final agreement actually looks like and if it will be filed with the UN.

As far as Saudi and Egypt are concerned. Israel may look at things differently.....

Given the fact we're allegedly allowing production to continue at a fortified, underground bunker what do you imagine the Israelis are going to be able to realistically do about it?

                                Agreed.

This is a good read as to how the deal is very good one (but of course, it depends on the "verification" stage).
