Make anti-LGBT businesses publicly post their policy.
Aren't most state legislatures currently controlled by the Republicans?
Everyone should be a protected class.
Everyone? Everyone that has certain immutable characteristics, sure; but, for instance, businesses should be able to discriminate against previously unruly customers.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
If only that were true. I fear it will take much longer.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Just like insurers have the right to discriminate against previously ill consumers.
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
Just like insurers have the right to discriminate against previously ill consumers.
Not anymore .
But you don't think that someone who has been belligerent and violent at a bar should be denied service the next time they walk in?

Of course not, you think that real people don't ever have to experience shame or embarrassment and only do if they are weak. You being a 'real man (tm)' and all, it would be a pointless endeavour.
You have yet to raise a single issue that would make things "worse". Though in y our eyes you do seem to think it would be worse for homosexuals to know ahead of time that a business is not going to serve them than for businesses to have to actually be honest in their advertising.
You are ignoring that it already is required in many cases, so you can continue pretend that there are some horrific unintended consequence of requiring businesses to disclose accurate information about the nature of the goods and services they offer.
I am not asking for anything extraordinary here ... simply the same protection for customers in one case as is already afforded in many others.
Good point. Imran, it's not really extraordinary for LGBT people to simply be treated equally and with some level of respect as human beings, and as American citizens, is it?
And also with the other point Aeson made - there are plenty of other laws that require businesses to be honest in their advertising in regard to other areas. How would requiring publicly posting anti-LGBT policy be any different in requiring honesty in advertising?
I don't think "violating freedom of association" is good retort, because as I've pointed out, businesses would be able to continue to not associate with LGBT people.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
And also with the other point Aeson made - there are plenty of other laws that require businesses to be honest in their advertising in regard to other areas. How would requiring publicly posting anti-LGBT policy be any different in requiring honesty in advertising?
A ridiculous stretch. Would you mandate businesses posting in all their ads "We deny service to anyone we've kicked out of our bar for violent behavior?" Would it therefore be dishonest for for them to not include that language, but tell people they aren't going to serve them due to a bar fight the last time they were there?
Furthermore, would it be dishonest advertising for businesses to deny, say, the local chapter of the KKK a place to meet even though it doesn't state that racists are not allowed? How long do you want ads to be?
Put to you this way, which may be easier to consider. After Proposition 8 in California, a lot of LGBT advocates wanted to retaliate against people who gave money to Prop8. In fact there were businesses who did as well. Do you believe that businesses are not being honest in their advertising if they do not disclose that they gave money to Prop8? I'm sure there are likely people who want to know what businesses gave money to the proposition and wouldn't want to support them.
edit: And, of course, there are more nuanced objections. A bakery, for instance, may not have a problem with serving LGBT folk, but may have a problem with baking a cake for an LGBT wedding. Do the signs have to get that specific to avoid your charge of false advertising?

The other part of that is that you're an *******. But how does that help gays?
