      It's all those years of hearing "never run from the cops" that triggers these sorts of reactions.

      I'm scared -> run
      Which way? -> not from the cop

        You know I recently saw a very funny Irish version of the Onion where it had American police complaining that people kept filming them shooting black people and asking if people would just stop filming them. "There wouldn't be a problem if members of the public just kept their cell phones in their pockets."

              That guy certainly is not the hero we deserve.

                  ok i can see that happening (there was a case here in brazil recently where a street seller was killed by a policeman: the street seller tried to grab the gun, and the policeman shot him dead - i can understand why he did, although the situation leading up to the incident should never have been allowed to occur (someone caught it on film), and is in fact typical of the police here, harassing guys trying to make a living). however, there is a long way between an unarmed man running at a policeman and trying to take his gun to kill him.

                    Does this mean that normal policemen would be safer without guns, like in the UK?

                      Well we've had 25 police officers killed in the line of duty since 2000. This doesn't include road accidents and the like incidentally, just deliberate killings.

                      How about you guys?

                        I don't know if that comparison would have value in this discussion since our population is armed.

                          To be honest, I don't entirely believe the officer saying that the man charged at him.

                          Also, didn't the officer have a partner or something? Did he just show up alone?

                          (FWIW, I live in Dekalb County - where the shooting happened wasn't some poor ghetto or something - it's actually a decent part of the Metro area, though not a rich part)

                            Why? To be fair to the cop, the guy appears to have had mental health issues. If a naked crazy guy came charging at me, I'd definitely shoot him. Then again, some might argue I'm not police material..

                              Because I don't trust cops to tell the truth in a fatal shooting.

                                So you think when there's a fatal shooting it's more likely than not that the officer is lying?
