Sometimes libertarians are the most authoritarian people

The Grammys are a private gathering and they keep inviting Kanye back so it's not like they really mind his antics. Normally people would just ignore the Grammys.

Yup. It goes back to inherent bias and why people get upset at the things they do.

Yeah, we are talking about the award 4 days later. The Grammy's are LOVING this!

I wouldn't be surprised if they advertised a future Grammy's as "What will Kanye do next?"

Yup. If you hate Kanye, best thing you could do is ignore him.

              meh

I'm not a fan of much rap made after 1998-2000ish

At some point, in the late 90's rap pretty much ceased being politically aware and counter culture and turned into... "shots of patron, being in da club, making it rain, etc"

Most, if not all of the soul got squeezed out.

What little soul Kanye had disappeared when he got with Ray J's leftovers.

So you like the gangsta stuff .

Kanye does tend to rap about race a lot more than a lot of others. However, he definitely is a producer first, so his albums are fantastic in how much stuff he layers. "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is my favorite album of all time. All of his albums are damned good - even "808s and Heartbreaks" (which is one of my favs, actually - even though it was panned at the time).

I think you may like Kendrick Lamar's "Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City" - its definitely has got something to say.

There are a few rap artists I enjoy. I'm sure if I explored the current offerings, I would find stuff I like. In general, I very rarely like a lot of music from a particular artist. There have been few albums in my life that I could listen to completely... maybe Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine... usually more alternative/rock type music. It's a bit time consuming to listen to a lot of tracks I dislike in order to find the one I like.

I honestly don't know what makes me like the music I like. I may only like one or two songs from a particular artist, but enough so to say I'm a fan. Is that odd?

I generally like albums myself. So I put a high value on artists that intend to make an album rather than just a few good songs and fluff - so I really like Kanye for making albums his priority. Same thing with Arcade Fire, etc.

I get what you are saying, but I don't think this applies to my personal taste in music. I tend to find not much correlation between what I like and what is considered "good". Obviously, I think the "fluff" sucks. It seems to be more an issue of chord progressions in particular melodies. I suspect there is some sort of mathematical similarity in the composition of songs that I like, but I haven't studied or examined songs in great enough detail to be able to identify it. Music theory (or whatever) is not my subject

It's difficult to explain as I don't fully understand it myself.

Is there a Grammy for idiots who disrupt the ceremony? If so, Kanye must be a hall of famer by now.
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

He's only done it once. You are thinking of the MTV Video Awards.

Musical signs you are getting old

Stage one: you can't relate to or eventually recognize the music on MTV

Stage two: your favorite music is in the discount bin and has many "best of" titles.

Stage three: your favorite music is on the "easy listening" radio station that your parents once listened to
