Socialism for the defence industry is a must, think of all the hungry workers and their families having to live without a job in a non-subsidized sector of the economy.

That's par for the course with modern fighter aircraft, so I guess unless you think we shouldn't have fighter jets at all, which you possibly do, knowing you, then that's the price of admission. The Typhoon and Rafale both took that long or longer.
well my point is more the amount of resources that go into such things and the amount of intelligent people producing them, rather than doing something socially useful. but i suppose the real question is about the resources spent, the patriotic myths created, and the threats imagined to convince people that this sort of thing is necessary, even desirable. as we can see from this thread, some people need less convincing than others.

I hope this time they make an awesome movie about it. The F-14 one was great, the F-16's ones okay but the F-35 appearance was just sad, worse than the Harrier one.

I thought the Harrier's appearance in True Lies was awesome.
(poor video quality)
and even though it wasn't the best Die Hard movie (by far), I thought the F35 scene in Die Hard 4 was decent... though a bit unrealistic
I wish more movies would realistically depict encounters between aerial units and their targets, whether they be other aircraft, naval vessels, or ground targets. CGI is often overused, IMO. Though, I understand why that might be due to the cost, red tape, and potential dangers of filming with actual jets.
One of my favorite scenes is from The Sum of All Fears when the Russian bombers (TU-22's, I believe) go after the US aircraft carrier.
I'm not sure how realistic that was, but it seems a bit more plausible than an F-35 maneuvering under and through a highway overpass.
Hate to break it to y'all but the harrier can't hover for more than a few minutes at a time or the engine overheats and/or it runs out of gas. Ditto the F-35, so the scene in Die Hard 4 is total bull****.
Arnold in the Harrier was at least really ****ing awesome whereas DH4 was a turd sandwich.
Oh yeah and the F-35B model, the one that hovers, is most of the reason the program has been over budget and behind schedule.

yes...ish
The Harrier can only hover for about 90 seconds because a coolant (water) is necessary to cool the turbofans and the supply runs out in about that amount of time.
The only movie that Tom Arnold didn't totally suck in.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
