Ahem. Will get my PC back and quit borrowing this one on Thursday. Current "plan" as of twelve hours ago is to become a para and get a slightly higher income while I (somehow) get whatever education is required to be a real teacher. This plan depends on the lady at the BoE returning my damn e-mails so I know what to do. We shall see.
My ex, Elok, is an elementary school teacher. After she got her Masters in Childhood Education and her teaching certificate, but before she was able to get a full-time teaching position, she was a para-educator. She hated almost every moment of that job, because it was mostly just babysitting, but it did get her foot in the door. /me shrugs. That's just one anecdote.

Though the military certainly has the whole patriotic rah rah America thing going for it, it is still an organization that has to operate and compete in the labor market. If the compensation package is competitive with Elok's other options, I see nothing wrong with considering that as an option. Personally, I think it would be stupid of him not to. Sure, I have qualms with American foreign policy. But I don't think that makes the military option evil in any way. That's silly.
