I'm lol'ing at the military being morally repugnant thing. It won't ~~damage his soul~~ to stack pallets in a funny costume.
Do you really think the dude who hands out towels at the base gym ever thinks to himself, "man, I am part of an organization of evil and I am helping people murder babies and every towel I pass out is another droned wedding!" No of course he ****ing doesn't.
Because he's a drone in the machine like Alby
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
Listen, I don't believe anything about lines on a map, and I like America because I like the idea behind America and because it is objectively an awesome place, not because it happens to occupy a particular set of grids on the globe. If someone moves here, adopts those ideas, and tries to make their way here they're as American in my view as anyone who was lucky enough to be born here, perhaps even more so.
So why don't you or your brothers believe in American values?
"promoting the general welfare" seems like a good place to start... you guys are against this (unless I misunderstand your guys' entire post histories).
and you routine shit on democratic processes
quite frankly, I don't think you really like America all that much
Gentlemen, this is a me thread. Me me me me me ****ing me. Kindly take other subjects--such as a Manichean debate about the military--to another thread.
Am starting to consider private schools in the area (yes, at this point my thinking is all over the map). Seems like a good way to get experience in the field, even if the pay will be rubbish. Small class size, kids behave better; it's sort of the kiddy pool.
Okay, back to you Elok--if you were planning on getting the military to pay for your education, I strongly recommend if you go that route to get an officer's commission and use the GI bill.
In addition, if you're going back to school, you can do Army ROTC as part of a Master's program as long as it's at least two years. You have to go to LTC first. That's 4 weeks long and not very hard. You incur a 4 year commitment to active duty upon graduating or an 8 year reserve/national guard commitment. You don't sign the contract until you show up your first semester as an MSIII cadet. That will pay for it with a scholarship, potentially...but that's a pretty long time to be committed.
Have you considered working at summer camps, Elok? A lot of teachers do that over the summer, it might be a good way to get networking. I worked for a summer at a place called Fairfax Collegiate teaching math and programming. They hire college students, but they pay more if you have a degree. There were some english middle school teachers who worked there.
Don't know if it's a good idea or not but I bet you could get a job there. Considering they hired me while I was a rising sophomore in college, seeing as you have actual teaching experience and a diploma I think you're probably good to go.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers? ){ :|:& };:

We can also talk about lori right?

We can talk about ways Lori is different from me. Example: Elok likes regular Jesus. Lori prefers robot transhumanist hive-mind Jesus.
Re: the military thing, I'm not totally averse to service, and I don't think it's evil, but I'm aware that much of what the military does can be, ah, morally complex, and they don't need a neurotic schlep like me in those positions. Better to have more straightforward characters who don't agonize over everything. So: I'm not a computer nerd, no matter how I try. I'm no good for the getting-shot-at or shooting things. I'm asthmatic, wimpy, and legally blind without glasses, so they seriously don't want me there anyhow. I like working with teenagers, but even the AF doesn't do that, I don't think. I can write pretty well, so that's something. What MOS would you stick me in? I'm browsing a USAF MOS list right now, and nothing's jumping out.
Wait are you actually asthmatic? I think asthma is an automatic disqualifier for every service, unless you're a doctor.
If not, talk to an air force officer recruiter first about non-rated positions. Those are non-flying non-combat jobs. Note I think they have separate officer/enlisted recruiters.
If you do enlist try to get aircrew because they're the cushiest most fun least menial jobs. Don't pick maintenance and under no circumstances ever should you pick security forces (who are cops).
Army's website looked pretty grim on the subject. Implied it was out of the question if you have to take meds to control it. I don't really have to now, but honestly it comes and goes. Come to think of it, my brother got medically discharged for a shoulder that dislocates easily. That had basically diddly squat to do with his actual job (he couldn't lift heavy stuff, whoopdedoo), and there were apparently less than a dozen guys currently active doing what he did, but they booted him anyway. I think that bodes poorly for my ass-mar. Good thing I didn't really have my hopes up. I'll talk to one of my parish priests who's an AF chaplain (and a colonel), but that might be a disqualifier, yeah.
