  • Let me know if I'm the one who messed up

So... just had my one month anniversary with my girlfriend. We were super lovey dovey until last sunday. Here's what happened:

On Saturday, my family celebrated Orthodox Xmas. Large gathering. First time my girl met my extended family. Upon arrival, she hits someone's car.

She calls. I was already waiting for her. I look out the window. I get my sandals on (it is winter, snowy outside, and I'm wearing dress clothes) and go outside.

That whole situation gets taken care of. Or so I thought.

    Just wait, more backstory.

Sunday, she discovers one of her cats had swallowed a bunch of ribbon. She had to take him in for surgery. He's fine now. However, during one point, she called me to give an update. I was sitting alone in my family room watching football. At the same time she called, my family arrived home. Things got loud. I was trying to listen to my girlfriend. I got up and left because it was too loud.

    So what's the problem?

Well... apparently... I did not get up and leave the room fast enough. I thought she was joking with me at first. She got very confrontational.

"Don't you think you should have left the room?"
    "I did"
"But only AFTER I said something"
"The loudness of the room was self-evident. I would have left regardless"
"But if it were me, I would have left before someone even said something"
"I'm sorry. My reaction was slow. I was also stoned."

    GASP

"Oh you were stoned. Well maybe I was expecting someone to be... more considerate"

Suddenly, my marijuana usage becomes a point of emphasis. Because, being a psychic, I should have not smoked on Sunday, during the day, while relaxing and watching football... BECAUSE HER CAT MIGHT SWALLOW FOUR FEET OF RIBBON AND I MIGHT NEED TO BE AVAILABLE TO PROVIDE SUITABLE REACTION COMMENTARY WHEN SHE CALLS ME TO GIVE ME UPDATES

This might be the most petty "fight" I've ever been in.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Also, with regards to the accident...

I was told that I didn't run outside fast enough after she told me it happened.

My recollection is that UPON DISCOVERY, I WENT AND GOT ON MY SANDALS AND WORE SANDALS OUTSIDE IN THE ****ING SNOW WHILE LOOKING AT HER CAR

    but ****, i'm just inconsiderate

Long term relationships are about compromise and understanding.
She sounds like she is not willing to do either. (but again we've only heard your side of the story)

Be happy you had a month of good sex and run away as fast as you can.

Then you should really be running away.
          Sorry.

            Sorry.
            This.

Also, sadly, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Also, she sounds like she's wanty.

Second girlfriend behaved this way a lot. I trained her out of it. That is, there was a certain brand of pettiness that I simply refused to entertain. I would end conversations if my girlfriend behaved this way and wait until she had calmed down. Of course, back then, I was also a giant ******* utterly convinced of my own moral superiority, so, you know, salt, grains, etc.

I would postulate that you just think you trained her out of it.
But then what the **** do I know.
But I have been married for over 29 years so I either have a clue about what I'm doing or am the biggest wuss in the world.
I'll leave it to you guys to ponder.

More likely she just grew up.

Basically what rah and self said - especially after the lack of sex bit...

I did wonder why you'd returned to poly, but I didn't want to ask what the underlying issue was.

It's true that relationships are about compromise, but the less you have to compromise in the first place - the better they're likely to be.

I'll concede that this is possible but wouldn't bet on it. How old was she when you're claiming she grew up?

Now I just need to figure out how to get my stuff back without incident.

Listerine. Shaving gel. A razor. Face wash. Contact lens solution (1/4 bottle). A contact lens case.

The lack of sex is a bit more complicated. She was on vacation for 8 days... dec 27th - jan 4th.

Before vacation, she was super sick. Pneumonia

She apparently had her period twice within three weeks also.

She had her period, allegedly, during a 3-5 day period around december 14th

Her next period started the day she returned from her trip and has lasted ever since.

                          She also has an IUD.

So yeah... I think I'm done here.

She was 17 when we got together, 19 when we broke up. At the very least, she's grown up since then (8 years ago). So her subsequent boyfriends and current husband have me to thank.

Um, cut your losses - that stuff doesn't seem worth it...? I randomly lost a drill once due to a break up - actually the only acrimonious break up I've had...

Also, yeah, I'm surprised you hung in there as long as you did - get rid!

Also, periods are no excuse for not having sex in my book...
