  • Is it just me, or did Chrome just get a lot suckier now?

Clicking an icon and getting a popup list of users to click to open a new browser window for that user was just about perfect. Being able to see in the task bar which window was for which user was perfect.

Clicking a link to open a popover to click a link to open a popup to click an icon to open a new window with the same icon as all the other user's windows is very ****ty in comparison.

    I want a rollback!

One positive: the ability to use your google login pic is a good idea. Though ultimately pointless since it doesn't affect anything you can see while using the browser or in the task bar. Being able to set an icon of your choice (and see it in the task bar and browser window) would be far superior.

Thankfully it appears that at least for now it can be turned back:

For now, you can disable the new Avatar display which allows switching to different Chrome Users. This is a new feature that is destined to remain in future releases..the flag to disable it may be removed in the future.. Here's how you do it...
Put this in Omnibox (white Box above) where URL goes, then hit enter...
    chrome://flags/

    Look for the following flag:
Enable the new avatar menu Mac, Windows, Linux
Enables the new avatar menu. When combined with new-profile-management, it simply shows the new profile management avatar menu. Otherwise it shows a redesigned avatar menu with the same functionality as the old one, plus a tutorial card at the top prompting the user to try out the new profile management UI. #enable-new-avatar-menu

Click on drop down and select "Disable"

    Relaunch Chrome.
"This is a new feature that is destined to remain in future releases..the flag to disable it may be removed in the future" - for the love of god, why?

I haven't closed chrome in about three weeks, maybe I should. I'll try it when I get home.

Alternatively Aeson you could try managing your Phillipino sex trafficking ring using more traditional methods. Maybe Firefox.

Chrome allows the use of super cookies even in privacy mode. This is because Google doesn't want to lose ad revenue from people browsing in privacy mode. I has never had a privacy mode because MS hardly bothers to keep it up to date so that really only leaves Firefox which, thankfully, does allow you to block even super cookies.

Or *GASP* the days when there wasn't an internet.

I've gotten so spoiled with all that information at my fingertips.
I used to have a draw full of manuals, actually I still have it but I don't ever go into it anymore since the info is so easy to find on-line.

oddly I feel less informed since the internet came along - nothing is authoritative anymore

I disagree. Now there is a wider variety of options or even facts. As with anything else you have to check out multiple sources and decide what is most credible.
In the old days it was basically just a few sources. "World Book" or "Britannica" Now there are hundreds of sources. Granted there is more questionable material the exercise of sifting through it all can be quite informative. Especially when you're dealing with opinions. With just a few clicks you can get opinions on a subject ranging from ultra conservative to ultra liberal. Many sources means more work but the result is more satisfying.
