As a lifelong dog lover this is new for me.
A semi wild cat, a tortoise shell, had two kittens under my porch. She started feeding them on my steps. She was so weak and the kittens so small I put some milk out for them. I wanted them to feel safe and feared the mother would abandon them if she didn't have milk.
Now they hang around my porch all the time. I give them milk twice a day. She leaves the kittens in my chair when she goes to hunt. They are safe from the stray dogs there in our yard. She hides them when the tomcat comes around.
One is ginger and white, the other is black with tawny flecks. Initially I named them after people I don't like but now I call them Romulus and Remus. I made a toy out of a piece of wool and a bottle cap this evening, and they enjoyed playing with it. The mother I call Julie.
They have all put on weight and look healthy after a month of a little care.
I don't pat them. They have all kinds of fleas and worms, and are still wild. Sometimes the ginger one hisses at me, which is hilarious because it is still tiny.
We're getting along just fine
Romulus and Remus
