The New York subway sucks because somebody will get in your car and proceed to give a sob story that lasts all the way to the next stop

Hard to believe, back "then" everybody got paid, even if you were not able to work for whatever reason, ie people who are beggars now would be on some sort of incapacity dole, the whole thing was not worth the effort.

Isn't it just a Mediterranean thing?

There were many girls from the mediterranean in that gathering. The croatian one stood out

                No surprises there.

I've been scammed for minor amounts a couple of times - it just means that I don't give money to anyone, just to be sure...

I still listen to what people have to say if they accost me in the street. depending on their appearance you just know you're going to be fed a sob story, but every so often someone who looks like they're begging surprises you and asks you for directions or the time.

I don't want to be that guy that blanks someone genuinely asking for help - but if you ask me for money, **** off!

Also, hitchhiking: did it loads in NZ and met loads of cool people. I don't need to now, but if someone wanted a lift I would give it to them - but no one does any more...

hitch-hiking is fun. i've been one and also given a lift to quite a few. i met some interesting people, and a few, thankfully harmless, nutters along the way.

Imagine if you discovered you were giving a lift to Sister Bendy or Kidicious.

It would be enough to turn the Buddha into Mick Taylor from 'Wolf Creek'.

one scam that actually worked on me, was a black guy stopping me, visibly shook up, and telling me that someone had beaten him up (he let be understood that it was a racially motivated attack) and that he wanted some money to call someone. He was very very believable because he sawed me that his front teeth were moving. I've seen enough films to know that is a likely outcome if someone had beaten you.
I told him to go to the hospital (there was one nearby) but he said he already went but they sent him away.
I said that's illegal I'm going with you, they HAVE to treat you. He said no, no that's ok.

I went home thinking damn, what a ****ed up world we live in. Very upset.

Two weeks later, the same guy stopped me on the street, very agitated and started to saw me that his teeth were moving and someone had beaten him up.
I said, man come on really! Get the **** out of here.
But he did have me. The first time.
