Just tell her you have no intention of waiting that long and that you're going to go out and buy the game yourself.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I don't understand why people can be so impatient to experience a game is unfinished.

that was my original thought too, but it wasn't his issue so...............
And for the record, I haven't purchased it yet, and not planning on it in the near future.

"honey thank you so much for the gift! It's great and it's great you suffer my childish habits sometimes. I'm very happy! But I have to play it NOW! FOr the joy not to turn into a dark muddy feeling that pisses me off, be so kind and go and get it. I love you, you're the best!"
(of course if she says "no", there's no retort but play it big )
That might work if you haven't been married forever like some of us.
For those of us, our wives would be laughing uncontrollably before we even got two sentences into that spiel.

“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I will admit that my wife wouldn't be silly enough to believe that I would wait that long for something like that if I told her otherwise.
Another reason why we're still married after 25 years.

"You aren't checking out right before the holidays! We got lots of **** to do and you are helping. Get your game at Christmas!"

“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
I have the perfect solution! Buy her a copy online and just start playing with that one. If she says anything just say you wanted the two of you to play together. Such lovely family time plus you can start playing now instead of waiting a month.
First, my wife is great . She bought me Xcom for last c-mas. (Took me 4 months to play it through once, as playtime for a family man is limited.)
Second the thing I could negotiate with is yarn (she knitts, crochet, ...) but as the house is already full of yarn everywhere I just simply couldn't find them all (she has hidden some...) nor could I find a big enough hiding place for them
