You fell into this dislike backwards, clumsily. I don't know, I can't really ascertain from our multiple conversations what you actually do like and have an enthusiasm for.Originally posted by regexcellent View PostBut I don't have taste, and I also don't like final fantasy. I think I used summons like five times before I decided they were bloody useless; you lose a whole turn summoning them (or more depending on compatibility), then a second turn on the actual casting, plus several minutes of your life whacking a button, and the end result is invariably far weaker than what you could have done with two turns of limit breaks. Magic is also pretty useless, once you become a SeeD and get a regular income to buy potions with. Basically, all the commands they put in the game aside from attack, limit, item, draw, and card are pointless.Originally posted by N35t0r View PostYeah, PC. That could be it.
I think 85% of the time spent playing FF8 was spent boosting summons.

You weren't missing a whole lot. The last GF's animation lasts literally five minutes. She has the all-but-unique ability to break the damage limit, but even if you have the patience to wait for her to show up she still sucks because every character can outdo her for raw damage by that point. Also, Squall's last Renzokuken finisher hits literally twenty damn times, in addition to the eight or so normal hits. Sorta-kinda ludicrous.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to MRT's argument with Dinner over whether FF is worse than Civ5.

lol, yeah. Her relationship with that dog was closer than Squall's. But the ability where she rides it around is quite powerful. I think it makes you invulnerable for a while, but it's been so long since I played it.Originally posted by Elok View PostI preferred Quistis to Rinoa, mostly because I couldn't stand to see her launch the dog off her arm one more frigging time. But yes, Irvine was second only to Squall for awesome damage. Unless you use Zell's cheap Booya-Punch Rush loop, which is unbearably annoying even by FF8 standards.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. Nah, her dog-riding ability is just a multi-hit attack. There's a different LB to make your whole team invincible. The thing about Rinoa is, she's basically the heart of the game's cheesy brokenness. She had four active LBs with her dog, but the choice was random and Invincible Moon was the best by far, so it worked best if you gamed the system by refusing to teach her anything else, so you'd have a higher chance of IM. As for the reactive moves, some guy on GameFAQs wrote a whole guide to farming rare items with Angelo Search. And then, late in the game, she gets Angel Wing, which is also incredibly broken if you figure out how it works. Give her no offensive spells but meteor and that's all she'll cast. Over and over, at super-speed and triple power.

There actually were a number of instances in which pre-twentieth century gunsmiths attempted to merge a pistol with a sword, I've seen surviving models in the Smithsonian. I have no idea how well they functioned as either gun or sword, but not many were made and they remained a novelty so my guess I that they didn't work well as either."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!
