Good chance those things are connected.

My sister is a huge Gaga fan, but it's more about FU empowerment than music. Myself, I find the EDM influences -- harsh electronics, boring rhythms, no subtlety -- pretty annoying. She is not without talent but, like Madonna, has built her success primarily on marketing -- flash and notoriety, champion of the misfits, outrageous staging, etc.

Be fair, she's a LOT more talented than Madonna. But on the whole I agree.
