what if??? could the UN make this work??

what if all the nations on earth put 1 year of defense spending into a UN fund... what would be the best way to spend it? space exploration? food? fresh water? medical? fusion power?

Economically viable reforestation and irrigation projects in developing nations. Using organic/sustainable methods whenever possible, but not limiting to it when necessary. Could kill lots of birds with that stone ... create sustainable jobs, increase the caloric output and carbon buffering capacity of the land, improving watersheds, decreasing runoff, erosion, flooding, and desertification. And the best part is all that money would be right back in the first world in a jiffy creating demand for our higher value goods and services.
