What's Your Favorite Anime?

    Do you guys know enough about anime to help me recall one from the mid 90's that I liked?

    Woman protagonist. Something evil was going to destroy Japan. There were lots of battle scenes with spaceships (or flying battleships). The hero turned into some super weapon and saved the day.


    I don't know if that description is helpful.

    I thought it might be A-KO (sp?).
    To us, it is the BEAST.

                Favorite anime = I can't decide between Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood or Ghost in the Shell.

                              Question: Given its tendency to annoyingly choppy action/movement, is it considered ironic that the word "anime" is a diminuitive form of the word "animation"?
