To make up for all those ridiculously racist poll tests (like counting jelly beans in a jar and whatnot), those seeking to buy a gun should be made to first prove they've never committed a felony.

See, I look at it this way. It might be a bit racist, but it's one less group to worry about when the gun confiscation drone army gets built.
