i've recently purchased a sizable amount of Warmachine miniatures from their Convergence of Cyriss line. i didn't really like the direction warhammer 40k turned with sixth fifth edition, and seventh seems to be more of the same, but turned up to eleven. I'd always said that i would play Warmahordes when Privateer Press released models that i didn't think were completely awful, and the whole art deco/golden age of robots style of Convergence really strikes a chord with me.

my arts and crafts is limited to modding pc cases and making custom cases
my next project is going to be an old C3PO Star Wars toy case
i'm gonna put a mini-itx motherboard, 8-16gb ram maybe a spare hd6950 i have for gpu
also, white/yellowish led's for the eyes
threepio didn't have many flashing lights and stuff
it will be interesting figuring out the cooling situation

felch: maybe. 3-D printing does wondrous things, but it's really none of my business as i can't sculpt for real, nor can i e-sculpt. hopefully the threat of home printing makes miniatures companies really step their game up when it comes to the quality of their sculpts.

I tried playing warhammer 40k once with a tub of army men, I didn't really find the game that fun. Is the attraction mainly collecting and painting the miniatures?

A) I woulda figured The Protectorate of Menoth line might have appealed to a former Imperium player.
B) In some ways it actually is the same, in others it is worse. I've actually drop all my 40K army projects except for one that I'm going to slowly pursue mainly as a commissioned art project.
C) Any thoughts about the general question I asked in the Other Games forum?

have you seen how goofy looking the Protectorate minis are? Hell naw

How much fun you had depends greatly on the edition you played, but yes, the whole miniatures aspect is the fun part for a lot of people.

I don't have any aptitude for sculpting, but I can do minor conversion work: head swaps and the like. The models come as unassembled plastic, resin, or pewter kits. Also, modern pewter hasn't had lead in the alloy since the early eighties and usually consists of tin and antimony.

How difficult is working with pewter? Is it anything like solder?
