Sounds like a blast, Sparky.
No one compares with Freddie Mercury. I suspect Lambert would be the first to agree.
Just saw Heart's original guitarist Howard Leese playing in Vegas. He's pretty amazing. Great tone, great feel, great control. And he has that Clapton-style economy of motion.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

God Save the QueenGet the Queen Setlist of the concert at Bingley Hall, Stafford, England on May 29, 1977 from the A Day At the Races Tour and other Queen Setlists for free on setlist.fm!
Freddie came bouncing on in a white boiler suit, which he took off to reveal a harlequin leotard, if memory serves.
It was an excellent gig- the crowd sang 'You''ll Never Walk Alone' to the group, which they mentioned in an interview on BBC Radio 1 afterwards.
I hope you enjoy Queen with Mr Lambert- he's vocally very impressive. And almost as camp as Mercury...Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

So ...
Queen + Adam Lambert
We sat fairly far back to see the full lazar/light show. Only May and Roger Taylor are touring, with Taylor's son doing extra percussion. Amazingly strong show. No opener. No Break.
They opened with "Another One Bites the Dust", ended with a slightly cheated "Bohemian Rhapsody" (they went to the classic video part way through, and let their younger selves sing a bit). Finally, to help us old farts get out circulation going, did "We Will Rock You" and "We are the Champions" as an encore.
Lambert did everything required. He probably sings better than Freddie, however, his "Killer Queen" was more quaint than provocative. Maybe it's just that a guy in a studded leather jumper camping it up is not as dangerous as it was 40 years ago.
About half way through, May did an acoustic version of "Love Kills", leading into a full version of "Who Wants to Live Forever". Both featured a video retrospective of the group, with quit a bit of Freddie Mercury. It was extremely well done, but made me feel bloody old.
They followed with "Tie Your Mother Down", and "Radio Ga Ga (featuring Metropolis on the 'big screen').
The set list included: "Stone Cold Crazy", "Fat Bottomed Girls", "Seven Seas of Rhye", "In the Lap of the Gods...", "Somebody to Love", "I Want it All", " '39", "Love of My Life", "Under Pressure", "These are the Days of Our Lives", Don't Stop Me Now", Crazy Little Thing Called Love", and "The Show Must Go On".
It was fantastic...
Heart (with Jason Bonham)
We sat just behind the front-of-stage crush... No opening act. 1 intermission.
The 1st act, from the opening grind of "Barracuda", finishing with "Crazy on You" - amazing. Those girls can still rock an arena. "Heartless", "Magic Man", "What about Love", "Dog & Butterfly", "These Dreams", "Dreamboat Annie", "Dear Old America", "Even it Up", and "Kick it Out". May have missed one or two - I'm going from memory.
After intermission, they did a short Led Zeppelin set, opening with "The Battle of Evermore", the "Immigrant Song", When the Levee Breaks", "Kashmir", and finally, "Stairway to Heaven" with a Gospel choir backing them up.
The show had a fairly straight forward light show, but the music was incredible. This show made me feel like a teenager.

So, all in all, a very amazing weekend. I hadn't been to a rock concert in a few years... I used to be one of the ones at the crush in front of the stage... now I sit in the 'stadium seating' with the old farts... Still, I will do it again!!!Last edited by Uncle Sparky; June 24, 2014, 23:08.There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.
