  • Designing and developing a PC game.

    I am on Steam, and I am browsing through a selection of what look like sophisticated game designing software that would include a business license should you ever decide you want to publish and market your game.

    Is there anyone on Apolyton who have experience using any kind of game designing software/program? Ones I have found on Steam so far, are: Cryengine, GameMaker, Axis Game Factory, Clickteam Fusion, and others.

    What's stopping me from diving in though, is that I'm kind of intimidated as I am not knowledgeable in using programming language, coding, scripting, and so on.

    There are some, such as Gamemaker, that provides a stripped-down, very limited free package to get your feet wet first, before buying packages for more advanced and in-depth resources and tools.

    I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with using any kind of game designing software and what their thoughts are.

    Borland C++ I think there is a version 5.something... I still use 4.5, yeah I know, it's old.

    But 16 bit C is pretty easy. You have full control of video, mouse... everything. The best game I've made (best in terms of looking like the real thing) is Lunar Lander. Old, but pretty neat still.

      Holy Crapoly, where have you been? How have you been? Are you staying a while?
      No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

        Don't want to get off topic - I did read the rules... but story is - got rid of wife, traveled some remote places for fun, found new wife but the old name MWHC, lives on.

          I would highly recommend looking into Unreal Engine 4. Blueprint visual scripting for the win.

          Really though, making a game is tough, grueling work. If you are going to make something, bring all the passion you have and be prepared to trudge on when even that passion has run out.

          Funny because I actually came over here to talk game design.
