Here’s what cat owners everywhere are saying about the viral video of a California cat heroically protecting a little boy from a vicious dog attack.
Yep, cats are like that.
And a 4-year-old boy named Jeremy is thankful that they are.
He was riding his bike after school in front of his home in Bakersfield, Calif. when a neighbor’s dog, an 8-month-old Labrador/chow mix, launched a sneak attack on him.
The dog was biting and dragging Jeremy when suddenly the family cat, Tara, jumped out of nowhere onto the dog, chasing it off.
Jeremy’s mom, who was close by, heard her son screaming and came running.
The neighbor, who had been pulling out of their gated driveway when the dog escaped, called 911, according to ABC affiliate KERO in Bakersfield.
Jeremy’s dad, Roger Triantafilo, posted surveillance video of the attack on Wednesday and the video, which he titled “My Cat Saved My Son,” quickly went viral. It’s been watched nearly 6.2 million times.
KERO reports that Jeremy, who needed a few stitches, is doing fine now. The dog’s not so lucky. Police tell the TV station that the canine will be quarantined and then euthanized.
Jeremy’s mother, Erica, she’s not upset with the neighbors. She’s just thankful that Jeremy wasn’t hurt more severely.
“I've never seen a cat do that,” Roger Triantafilo told KERO. “Especially ours. It just shows how much she really has a family-oriented mind set."
