He's doing a grumpy old man act, Sava. It really is partly an act - you should respect his commitment to the part.
The trick to getting along with him is mostly not to escalate when he gumps at you. It's worked for me.Comment

I don't have to respect anything. I know his game. Commitment to a role is fine. Wiglaf, for instance, is an awesome poster. Sloww's problem is, his schtick isn't funny... and it's dickish. WRT to commitment, if you do it too much, you become indistinguishable from the role. If that's what he's going for, he's doing a good job... I guess. Unfortunately, it doesn't leave much room for much of anything else.
He was okay for a really long time. When I had my personal issue with BK, Sloww doubled down on loving his butt buddy. And that's fine. It's nice to have a whiteknight.
